REASON
Inherently, manual pill crusher “pouch systems” expose nurses to toxic airborne pill dust every time the nurse crushes pills for a patient.
1) If the nurse does not fold over the pouch and hold the pouch closed when crushing pills, airborne pill dust emits directly into the nurses’ air space.
2) If the pouch bursts, which it often does, substantial airborne pill dust is released.
3) When checking to see if the pills are crushed fine enough, nurses “flick” the pouch right in front of their face; creating more airborne pill dust. Nurses are “flicking” the pouch to dislodge pills from inside of the pouch and to see if pills are crushed fine enough.
4) With the “pouch system”, after crushing the pills, the nurse must pour crushed pills from the pouch to a cup; creating more airborne pill dust.
NOTE: Nurses will tell you they are tired of tasting meds every day. Some will even tell you they scrape the roof of their mouth and tongue when they get home. Many experience chronic sinus issues.
SOLUTION
Eliminate manual pill crushers. Eliminate the “pouch system”. SafeCrush™ crushes pills between two food-grade cups within a sealed crushing chamber. There is no airborne pill dust. SafeCrush™ is the solution.
